How to configure an email account in the Windows 8 Mail App

Here are the steps to setup the Mail App on Windows 8. Of course you'll want to replace “” in the example below with your actual domain name.

  • Tap the Mail icon.
  • You may need to sign up for a Microsoft Hotmail or Windows Live account first in order to perform an initial setup.
  • Enter your Microsoft account email and password and tap “Save.”
  • Now slide the screen toward the left.
  • You should see five icons: Search, Share, Start, Devices, Settings. Tap “Settings,” then “Accounts.”
  • Tap “Add an account.”
  • Tap “Other account.’
  • Tap “IMAP,” then “Connect” (Mail does not support POP3).
  • Tap “Show more details.”
  • Under Email address and Username, enter your full email address (i.e., [email protected]).
  • Under Password, enter your password.
  • Under Incoming (IMAP) email server, enter [Mail Server Name*].  Set the port to 143.
  • Uncheck Incoming server requires SSL.
  • Under Outgoing (SMTP) email server, enter [Mail Server Name*].  Set the port to either 25 or 587.
  • Uncheck Outgoing server requires SSL.
  • Leave Outgoing server requires authentication checked.
  • Leave Use the same username and password to send and receive email checked.
