Web App Gallery - Joomla Setup

This article provides comprehensive instructions for configuring Joomla in our hosting environment. Before you begin, please read this article to see if your account meets the requirements for optimal Joomla operation.

You will need a MySQL database for Joomla. If you don't have a MySQL database yet, log in to Control Panel to set one up. Once the database has been provisioned, log back in to Control Panel and  go to the MySQL Database Manager section and click the "Manage" link for the database. Make note of the MySQL server name, database name and user name (the default password will be your Control Panel password).

Web Application Gallery
Go to the Web App Gallery in Control Panel, scroll down to Joomla and click the "Continue with Installation" link.

To install directly in the root of your site, make sure the "Application Path" text box is left blank.

When the Application Installation Tool has finished uploading Joomla, click the URL link. If your domain name is not yet pointed to DiscountASP.NET, use the Alternative URL that you can find on the Account Information page in Control Panel.

Main Configuration
  • Enter the values into the fields you wish to use. Remember the Admin Username and Password, you will need this information to log back into the domain section of the application.
  • Click the Next button.

Database Configuration
  • Select MySQL from the "Database Type" dropdown menu
  • The "Host Name" is the Database Server listed in Control Panel.
  • In the User Name field enter the database username.
  • The Password for your database is the same as your FTP password at the time the database was provisioned (you can reset your database password in Control Panel if you need to).
  • In the Database Name field enter the database name.
  • Click Next.

Finalization
  • Install Sample Data: choose which sample data you wish to use. The default is: None, and will create the basic Joomla design.

Remove Installation Folder
  • During the configuration process, you will not be able to delete the installation folder. Once configuration is completed, connect to your site via FTP to delete the installation folder.

Basic Joomla configuration is now complete.
