SmarterMail SSL email settings

We support email encryption using TLS (Transport Layer Security) or SSL (Secured Socket Layer). To take advantage of this feature, you will need to configure your email client with the correct TLS/SSL settings.

TLS vs SSL
There are two email settings you can choose to encrypt your connections between your email client and our mail server: TLS or SSL. We recommend using TLS (or "Auto," if available).

Some older email clients may not support TLS. If you use SSL as the encryption method you will need to specify these ports in your email client:

POP3S - SSL (Port 995)
IMAPS - SSL (Port 993)
SMTPS - SSL (Port 465)

Common name mismatch warning
The certificate installed on the email servers has a common name of *.internetmailserver.net. If you are using your own domain name as the email server (e.g. pop3.yourdomain.com or smtp.yourdomain.com) a warning message may appear. The warning can be bypassed and the certificate trusted.

If you replace the server name in your email client with the specific server name in the control panel.
